After finishing second in his last two starts, Dawn Amiss's homebred Fantastic Voyage found his way back to the Ocean Downs winner's circle on Sunday, June 23 after throwing down the gauntlet early en route to a 1:52.3 score in the $16,438 Open 1 Handicap Pace.
A four-time Sunday winner, driver Jared Moyer sent 7-5 favourite Fantastic Voyage in pursuit of the lead from post six and the popular pacer strode clear of Hes Gonna Getya (Trae Porter) to control splits of :27.3, :56.2 and 1:24 before gradually pulling away from his seven rivals through the final turn. The seven-year-old son of Cool Flying Fun out-paced Hes Gonna Getya by four lengths to score his second Open win of the meet. Zs Dream (Fern Paquet Jr.) stalked the top pair throughout and finished third as the 25-1 longest shot on the board.
Deshawn Sample trains 29-time career winner Fantastic Voyage, who paid $4.80 to win.
Moyer also won with Tenouttaten ($4.40, 2:02.2), Rock Solid Bet ($32.60, 1:57.2) and his own trainee Lucky Ramsey ($3.80, 1:56.1).
On the undercard, 2022 Breeders Crown winner Ammo scored his second win in as many starts over the Ocean half-mile oval, drilling a six-length, 1:53.1 win over Rhythm Of The Rein and Captain Mikey in a $13,014 conditioned pace for non-winners of 10 pari-mutuel races or $100,000. Jonathan Roberts drove the four-year-old Sweet Lou entire for trainer Michael Hall.
Racing returns to Ocean Downs on Wednesday, June 26 with a 12-race card set to commence at 7:05 p.m.
