Tomas and Golden Kronos won the co-features at Vernon Downs on Saturday (June 24).
Tomas (pictured above) took the $7,500 featured pace.
Gunpowder N went to the lead and was first to the quarter in :27.1. He used a :29.3 second quarter and led to the half in :56.4. Stewardoftheland went first-up and challenged for the lead around the final turn. Gunpowder N led to three-quarters in 1:25.3. As they made the turn for home, Tomas went three-wide and powered on by to win in 1:52.4. Stewardoftheland had to settle for second and Old Pal came up to finish third.
Tomas is a six-year-old gelding by Art Major. He is owned by White Yetti Racing and trained by driver Artie Dick. He is two-for-two in 2023 and now has seven victories in his career. He paid $3.10 to win.
Golden Kronos captured the $7,500 featured trot.
Zapaca led to the first quarter in :27.4 and slowed things with a :30 second quarter to be first to the half in :57.4. He cruised to three-quarters in 1:26.3. As they reached the stretch, Golden Kronos popped out of the pocket blew right on by to take the lead. Second-place finisher Discus Hanover was flying late but could only watch as Golden Kronos won easily in 1:55. Poker Play finished third.
Golden Kronos is a nine-year-old gelding by Chapter Seven. Chip Zombick trains for owners Michael and William Pozefsky. It was his first win this season from five attempts and he now has 36 victories. Jimmy Whittemore drove the $5.60 winner.
Artie Dick had a driving-training double. Barton Dalious had a driving double.
