The father and son duo of trainer Rick Zeron and driver Scott Zeron joined forces to take home the top prize in Tuesday’s Preferred Trot at Grand River Raceway
with a relatively new recruit.
Merited Victory, who is owned by the Zerons and partner Percy Elkins, rolled to an eight-length tally in a time of 1:58.1 in the $12,800 affair. The four-year-old son of Victory Sam, who was making just his third start for the new crew, sat off the speed for the first half of the mile before exploding to the top and drawing away to a convincing victory over Long Ago and Nobananas.
Merited Victory has put together a 2-1-0 record in his first three starts since hooking up with Team Zeron. The gelding has gone 20-for-44 over the course of a career that has seen him stash away more than $144,000 to date.
