Arnies Angel, driven by Ridge Warren, charged late to capture the featured $10,500 fillies and mares pace at Tioga Downs on Friday, June 23.
Favourite A Better Game (Mike Merton) was first to the quarter in :26.1 and led the field through middle splits of :55.3 and 1:23.2. As they reached the stretch, Amini (Bruce Aldrich Jr.), advancing on cover from the backfield, and pocket-pursuer Arnies Angel went all out after A Better Game. In the end, Arnies Angel got up to win it in 1:52.3 by a half-length over Amini and A Better Game. She paid $6.90 to win as the second choice.
Arnies Angel is a seven-year-old mare by Big Jim. She is trained by Randy Taft for owners Mali Norbye and Arnold Witkin. The win was her fourth in 19 starts this year and she now has 23 career victories.
