Trainer Sheldon Powell won two of three $20,000 divisions of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund’s first leg for three-year-old pacing fillies on Tuesday (June 23) at Harrington Raceway.
Powell’s first win came with his son Logan Powell’s Kit Kat Joy ($8.80, Tony Morgan), who prevailed in 1:58.4 over Dragon My Fannie and Bag Of Jewels in the first division on the card. The Southwind Lynx filly recorded her second career win with a front stepping victory.
In the final division, first-time starter Sweet Lil, also trained by Powell, was a 2:01.4 winner over Foolish Wisdom and Bashful Smile. Owned by George Minner, the Art Director filly had just one qualifying race prior on June 10.
Brenda Teague’s Shes Got The Lynx ($17, Montrell Teague) was the fastest of the three divisional winners with her 1:58 win in the second division. The Southwind Lynx filly scored a significant upset over 1-9 favourite Cinder Rock, who set the pace, but was outkicked through the stretch by the pocket-sitting She’s Got The Lynx. Trained by her owner, it was the third win for Shes Got The Lynx. Spin Sumthin was third.
