Georgian Downs hosted a Wanna Drive event Saturday, June 21, and the event treated over 30 fans to a hands-on-horse experience. Willing participants were given a ride around the oval, with many riders being first-timers to the track.
The event brought new fans to the track through a great promotion by local radio station 104.1 The Dock, in addition to the efforts of social media. The radio station offered ten rides around the track as prizes to local listeners.
“Partnering with the 104.1 The Dock allowed us to not only promote racing here in Barrie, but to give a few lucky fans the opportunity to experience the thrill of sitting behind a racehorse,” said Wendy Wasylowich, Marketing and Promotion Coordinator for Georgian Downs. “People were asking about where and when they could sign up to drive a race horse days and hours before we were even taking sign ups.”
The Wanna Drive program is becoming part of the racing experience at many local tracks, and it’s a fan favourite with race goers of all ages.
The Hands on Horses Program is brought to you by the Ontario Harness Horse Association.
