After getting picked off late in his baby race debut, Glowing Lou made every call a winning one to lodge the fastest mile during the 14-dash session of baby races for the boys on Saturday, June 22 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

On June 14, Glowing Lou made his first charted on-track appearance, finishing a solid second to the showy Sterling Choice. That mile was individually timed in 1:59.1 for Glowing Lou. Eight days later, not only did he make amends, he made a statement.

Bob McClure asked the colt to cut the mile again on Saturday morning, under much better conditions than his debut, and the colt obliged through fractions of :27.4, :56.4 and 1:26.3. With a three-length cushion at that third station, the lead started to diminish but Glowing Lou held sway and tripped the timer for a motionless McClure in 1:54.4.  Bunkhouse Boss (Trevor Henry) closed well to finish a head back in second.

Dr. Ian Moore trains and co-owns Glowing Lou (Sweet Lou - Teenybopper) along with Mac Nichol of Burlington, Ont., Peter Venturini of Rockaway, N.J. and Bolton Stables of Clermont, Fl. The colt was $260,000 Harrisburg yearling, plucked from the Vieux Carre Farms consignment.

The fastest pacing mile of the day finished the first half of the session, and the fastest trotting mile of the day concluded the second half.

In that 14th and final baby race of the morning, Chicago Hall cleared to the top just after the :31 opener for driver Anthony MacDonald, and that's as close as a rival would get. After middle fractions of 1:01.1 and 1:30, Chicago Hall breezed home in :27.3 to trip the timer in 1:57.3. Whitty Wheels (Henry) finished second, back more than five lengths.

Chicago Hall (Muscle Mass - Caterina Hall) is trained by Dominic Gladu for Thestable Chicago Hall of Guelph, Ont. The gelding was a $47,000 Lexington purchase from breeder Walnut Hall Ltd.
