Sunshineinmypocket Upsets In Mohawk Series Finale

Despite odds of 29-1, Tyler Jones drove Sunshineinmypocket to victory against a field of nine other competitors in the $25,000 Pop Up Series final for filly and mare pacers on Thursday (June 22) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

From post six, the Brett Lester trainee never found the rail as they passed the opening panel in :26.3. However, when Jones and Sunshineinmypocket did meet the pylons, they kept on going and never looked back. Sunshineinmypocket led the field through the half in :54.3 and three-quarters in 1:22.4. She was met by challengers down the stretch, but stuck her head out at the wire to win in 1:51 over Darkrshadeofpale N (Bob McClure). The Ideal Huntress (Louis-Philippe Roy) rallied late in the stretch to grab third.

Sunshineinmypocket is a seven-year-old mare owned by Jean-Francois Reid and Jean-Francois Gauthier. She has 23 career wins, five of which were earned this season, along with $177,859 in career earnings. Sunshineinmypocket paid $59.90 to win.

Heavensdor Hanover was also an upset winner in a $15,000 leg of the Pop Up Series for trotters, off at odds of 20-1.

Jody Jamieson and Heavensdor Hanover got away second behind Rosies War Bonds (Ed Hensley), who led the field of eight to the quarter in :27.3. Favoured Villefranche As (Doug McNair) took command as they reached the half in :57.1, shuffling Heavensdor Hanover back to third. As Southwind Caeser (Jonathan Drury) made a first-over advance for the lead, Heavensdor Hanover was left in fourth at the three-quarters in 1:26.1. Jamieson maneuvered 'Heavensdor' through traffic in the stretch to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:55. Villefranche As finished second and Wishyoudtellme (Louis-Philippe Roy) was third.

Heavensdor Hanover is a seven-year-old gelded son of Donato Hanover and the Muscles Yankee mare Her Culese. Owned by Legacy Racing Of De Inc, Carolyn MacIsaac and Ross Warriner, the Herbert Holland trainee has three wins this season and 13 lifetime to go along with $218,055 in career earnings. Heavensdor Hanover paid $42 to win.
