Driver Trevor Henry landed Pikachu Hanover in the pocket spot and capitalized off the trip to take the $34,000 Preferred Handicap Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Tuesday (June 22).
Treasured Tee took control from post 8 with Pikachu Hanover settling into second moving to the first quarter in :26.4. By the half in :55.4, Treasured Tee cruised uncontested into the final turn while Superlative got underway moving first over from sixth. His uncovered move prompted Perfetto to angle off the pylons while also forcing Henry’s hand to pull Pikachu Hanover as they clicked three-quarters in 1:24.1.
Off the final turn, Treasured Tee clung to a diminishing lead as Pikachu Hanover made gains to his outside. The seven-year-old Andover Hall stallion downed the temposetter with a sixteenth to go and kept him at bay by three-quarter lengths while Perfetto gave chase in third and Refi finished fourth.
Owned by High Stakes Stable Inc., Pikachu Hanover won his fifth race from 17 starts this season and his 21st from 56 overall, surpassing $200,000 in earnings. Gregg McNair trains the $5.50 winner.
