Once fed racetrack off the final turn, 3-2 favourite Bee Two Bee barreled to the lead and drew clear from his competition to take the $10,000 Horses & Geldings Preferred 3 Pace at Georgian Downs on Tuesday (June 22).
Driver Scott Coulter settled the four-year-old Sunshine Beach stallion into sixth, 10 lengths behind pacesetter Ideal Jet as he took the field past the quarter in :26.4. Ideal Jet then slowed the tempo to a :56 half, and though he accelerated to three-quarters in 1:24.2, a charge came calling up the backstretch.
Pedro Hanover tipped first over moving to the backside with Bee Two Bee close in tow second over. The first-over challenger charged to within a length of the lead moving to the final turn and soon stuck a head in front. But coming off the final turn, Coulter gave the cue to Bee Two Bee and rolled past Pedro Hanover coming for the beam. The Craig Gilmour trainee kicked away by three lengths to stop the clock in 1:51.3, pacing a back half in :53.3. Pedro Hanover finished second with pocket-sitter Outlawgrabbingears another three lengths behind in third.
A homebred for ICR Racing, Bee Two Bee won his first race from nine starts this season and his ninth from 43 overall, earning $95,201. He paid $5.00 to win.
