It was a muddy day in Fraserville, Ontario on Tuesday, but that didn’t stop trotter Dropofthehammer, or driver Billy Davis, Jr. for that matter, from turning in stellar performances.
Dropofthehammer took the Kawartha Downs feature in 1:59.4 for the tandem of driver Brad Rae and trainer Nelson White. Rae moved his charge to the lead shortly after the quarter pole and successfully chopped out middle splits of :59.2 and 1:29.3 before using a :30.1 final frame as the knockout punch. It was 2-1/4 lengths back to runner-up Americanadian. Third prize was earned by J M Ironside.
The victory was the fourth of the season in 18 tries for the five-year-old son of Yankee Glide, who is owned by David White and Jared Overland of Rockwood, ON. The lion’s share of the $8,800 purse bumped the gelding’s cash stash to $63,261.
Billy Davis, Jr. proved he’s a pretty good ‘mudder’ thanks to his four-win day at the office. The sulky sitter from Cambridge, ON clicked with Dragoninthesky (2:00.1), Gothic Crusader (1:56), The Panductor (1:58.1) and Finally Connected (1:59).
The son of O’Brien Award-winning horseman Bill Davis is enjoying a career year in the win column. His four Tuesday tallies brings this year’s win total to 59, and that 10 wins more than the total he racked up throughout the entire 2009 campaign. He recently surpassed $1 million in career earnings.
