A pylon violation by Graceful Horizon cost her a win in Tuesday’s $13,500 feature race at Century Downs, and her misfortune turned out to be the good fortune of Betcha Baby who was second-placed-first in the card’s main event.
Race favourite Graceful Horizon shot to the top from Post 5, and she led the group through fractions of :27.3, :56.2 and 1:24.3 before scooting home in :29.3 to stop the teletimer in 1:54.3. A length in arrears was runner-up Betcha Baby, with Senga Nightmare rounding out the top three.
The inquiry sign was promptly posted, however, and after deliberation the judges placed Graceful Horizon from first to seventh for a pylon violation. That placing resulted in Betcha Baby being placed first, Senga Nightmare being placed up to second and Stash The Cookies moving up one spot to grab the show dough.
Betcha Baby, who was sent off at odds of 9-1, celebrated the win for trainer/driver Brandon Campbell. The six-year-old daughter of Bettors Delight-Me And My Baby is owned by Timothy Kane, George Rogers, Raymond Henry and Jodi Loftus. It was the second win of the year – and the 11th to date – for the career winner of $220,055.
