Aaron Merriman underwent elbow surgery last week and reported on his Facebook page that it “went better than prognosis

.”

He said he will learn more Wednesday, when he has another round of appointments with doctors. He also said, “Thanks for all the support, it means a ton. Very uncomfortable, but happy it wasn’t worse. Thanks again.”

Merriman, 31, was injured in an accident June 11 at The Meadows, in western Pennsylvania. Merriman, who leads all harness racing drivers in North America in wins, with 355, suffered a broken left elbow and broke both wrists. He is the leading driver at Northfield Park, with 221 wins, and ranks fourth at The Meadows, with 134 victories. Last year, he finished third for most wins in North America, with a career-high 706. He also set a career mark with $5 million in purses.

“I’m just hoping I get back as soon as possible,” Merriman said last week. “I’m really disappointed the way the year might end. It’ll all work out, I’m sure; it’ll just take some time.”
