Style Snapshot ($43.80) sprung a major upset in the co-featured $8,500 Preferred 3 for pacing mares on Wednesday (June 20) at Grand River Raceway, while So Not Cool ($2.40) lived up to fives-on billing in the $8,500 Preferred 3 Trot.
Travis Henry settled Style Snapshot in midfield early, rating from fifth while Miss Brandi K (Scott Coulter) and Leaving A Legacy (Nick Steward) duelled through a :28.1 first quarter. After Big Lis (Colin Kelly) made a bold brush from third to take charge at the completion of a :58 half, Style Snapshot slid second-over to stalk the cover of Pinky Tuscadero (Mike Horner) up the far side.
Big Lis held her ground under steady pressure through a :29.2 third quarter, and while successful in keeping Pinky Tuscadero at bay, she could not outlast the three-wide push of Style Snapshot, who struck the front a sixteenth from home. Style Snapshot prevailed by the better part of a length over Leaving A Legacy (Nick Steward), who emerged out of heavy traffic on the far turn to save second, while Dazzling Rockette (Ed Hensley) rallied down the centre of the track to finish third.
Style Snapshot's 1:57.2 mile equalled her lifetime mark and accounted for her eighth career win. Scott McNiven trains the four-year-old daughter of Royal Mattjesty for Kimberley McNiven and Thomas Brodhurst.
In the night's top trotting event, So Not Cool strung Nebraska Jack (Jason Ryan) out on the first turn before reclaiming the lead at the completion of a :28.3 first quarter and not looking back from there. The seven-year-old gelded son of Muscles Yankee edged clear at will with three-eighths to go and was under wraps in rein to Colin Kelly at the completion of a 1:57 mile. Nebraska Jack, three lengths in arrears, was never in danger of ceding second, while Azucar (Travis Henry) checked in a distant third.
