Mohawk Racetrack played host to an eight-pack of qualifiers on Tuesday morning (June 20) and Arsenal Seelster went on to record the fastest win time of the session.
With Jonathan Drury in the sulky for trainer Colin Johnson, Arsenal Seelster kicked off the morning’s festivities with a one and a half-length victory in 1:53.4 over a ‘fast’ track. The Artistic Fella three-year-old started from Post 5 and earned the lead on the turn after opening fractions of :29 and :57.2. He then spun off three quarters in 1:25 and came home with a :28.4 final quarter. His mile was the quickest of all the pacers on the morning docket.
The quickest trotting miles of the session – 1:57 performances – were recorded by Glencove Zani in Race 2 and Dream Together in Race 7. The latter, who is owned by the Determination stable of Montreal, Quebec, won four of seven starts last season for trainer Luc Blais and driver Sylvain Filion. The three-year-old Muscle Hill filly was fetched at auction in 2015 for $240,000. Dream Together’s Tuesday performance was her third qualifying effort off the shelf.
The session also featured the first charted mile of Dont Stop Believin’s career, and the result was a half-length victory in 1:58.2 for trainer/driver Jack Moiseyev.
The largest margin of victory during the session was recorded by Dad Leads, who romped by 27 lengths in a 1:59.3 performance for trainer Gary Rivest and driver Mike Saftic.
