The Baby To Boomer Series kicked off on Saturday night at Sudbury Downs with six $6,500 and it was Top Of The Morning who took top honours in capturing the first and fastest division by open lengths
.
In rein to Mike MacNeill, Top Of The Morning shot off the gate from Post 4 and jumped out to a three length lead by the first quarter in :28.1. A parked out Mystic Arrow (Richard Baker) closed that margin to one length as he advanced on the outside and then dropped into the pocket past the :57.1 half-mile marker, but Top Of The Morning was set on keeping his distance from the field and began to take off past three-quarters in 1:27.2. The 4-1 third choice opened up 8-1/4 lengths on the field as he motored home to trip the timer in 1:58.2. Favourite Rockin On Over (Mario Rivest) finished second with Mystic Arrow third.
Top Of The Morning paid $11.70 for the win. The three-year-old son of Cams Card Shark-Converging Spirit is trained by Paul Ruhl for James Ruhl of Tara, ON. The gelding picked up his second win in four starts for his new connections, who acquired him in mid-May.
The other divisions went to Colamotion (2:01.2), Casimir Jitterbug (1:58.3), Cameo Pin (1:59.1), Enigma Hanover (2:00) and Wealthiest (2:01).
