The wins are starting to pile up for Slip Into Glide, who cruised to a comfortable score in Monday’s $34,000 Preferred Trot at Mohawk Racetrack.

With Mario Baillargeon at the controls, Slip Into Glide survived a first-over journey in the featured affair and drew clear to win by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:52.2 – a national season’s record for older trotting geldings.

Mego Moss shot to the front and supplied the group with an opening quarter clocked in :27.2 before Wheeling N Dealin moved to the lead in the backstretch. He hit the half in :55.2, but came under intense pressure around the final turn when Slip Into Glide started to accelerate. Slip Into Glide was the leader on the outside at the three-quarter pole in 1:23.3, and his :28.4 closing panel was more than enough to seal the deal over Mego Moss and Wheeling N Dealin.

Trainer Ben Baillargeon of Rockwood co-owns the six-year-old son of Yankee Glide-Balanced Breeze with Craig Turner of Ingersoll, Ontario, and together they’ve watched the square gaiter put together a flashy record of 6-4-0 from 16 trips to the track this season. He’s stashed away over $118,000 this year and more than $437,000 to date.
