In Your Room and Mike Simons made it two in a row at Tioga Downs on Saturday night in the $16,000 Open Handicap Trot.
Leaving from post position number five in a field of seven, Simons moved In Your Room to the front past the quarter-mile mark of the race in :27.2. The duo would then control the rest of the fractions of :55.3 and 1:23.3 before opening up on the field around the final turn. In the stretch, In Your Room was asked with minimal urging from Simons and was well clear to win in a new lifetime-best of 1:53.
The mile was just two-fifths of a second off of the track record for aged trotting mares, established by Autumn Escapade and George Brennan in last year’s Miss Versatility.
Strong Hope (Mike Merton) came first over from third to finish second while New York Attitude (Jim Marohn Jr.) was third and Brookroad Knight (Corey Braden) rounded out the 10-cent superfecta.
Gail Wrubel trains the five-year-old daughter of Cr Excalibur for the Classico Stables LLC of Pennsylvania. She recorded her fourth win in 11 starts in 2013.
Simons enjoyed a four-bagger on the night’s 12-race card.
