It has been reported that a lawyer with no background in the horse-racing industry has been named the new president and CEO of the New York Racing Association.

An article by The Saratogian states that Christopher Kay, 60, will take over top spot in the embattled racing organization.

The report states that Kay was most recently the COO of the Trust for Public Land, a national conservation organization, and was previously COO for Toys “R” Us.

“We are delighted to select Chris as our new president and CEO,” NYRA Chairman Dr. David Skorton was quoted as saying. “His wide range of expertise and skills, including experience in the legal, regulatory and corporate governance environment, will serve him extremely well in his new position at NYRA.”
