Serge Savard will “spin-a-rama” his way to Rideau Carleton Raceway next Sunday as a special guest of honour at the 28th Des Smith Classic
.
Aside from the VIP appearance, the former Montreal Canadiens great will have a vested interest in the outcome of the event as Shadow Play is in to go.
Savard co-owns the winner of last year’s Little Brown Jug along with Dr. Ian Moore, RG Mc Group Ltd and Blue Chip Blood Stock.
Shadow Play, a mere $16,000 yearling purchase has earned $1,327,322 since leaving the sales ring in Harrisburg in 2006.
The son of The Panderosa out of Matts Filly by Matts Scooter, will be looking for a measure of redemption in this year’s edition of “The Des”. A virus ruined his efforts in the eliminations of the Molson Pace at Western Fair last month. Sunday's Des Smith, which puts up a purse of $162,000 will be the second big event of the season for Shadow Play, who will take on aged pacers for just the second time in his career.
