Three of trainer Gregg McNair's students made their way to the Grand River Raceway winner's enclosure on Wednesday evening, June 18.
Volcanic ($2.70) outshined his stablemates with the swiftest performance in the $8,000 Prospect Series for three-year-old colt and gelding pacers. Todd Ratchford piloted the McNair student from the rail. After getting parked in third to the quarter in :27.1, Volcanic shook free on the lead and never looked back, controlling the tempo in :56.2 and 1:25.1 before winning by a length in 1:55. Bozak (Travis Henry) was second with All Bets On Gary (Mike Horner) third.
McNair co-owns the sophomore Big Jim-Neverhaditsogood colt with Barbara Wells. Volcanis won his fourth race in seven starts in a career-best time.
McNair secured two additional wins with Bettor Talker ($6.60) and Carsonsbuckngo ($12.30), both piloted by Jason Ryan, to complete his training hat trick.
In the two other $8,000 Prospect Series divisions, Thai Tour ($4.50) and trainer/driver Mike Horner won by a head in 1:54.4 while National Tier ($6.10) and Anthony Haughan teamed up to win by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:52.2 for trainer Meg Crone.
