A two-year-old full brother to the richest-ever Ontario Sires Stakes horse was victorious during Mohawk Racetrack’s morning qualifying session on Thursday, June 18.
In rein to driver Trevor Henry for trainer Dan Lagace, Dial K, who is a full brother to OSS standout Text Me (3,1:54.3s [$931,853]), took to the track for Race 6.
Henry and Dial K started from Post 3 and sat fourth through the fractions (:32, 1:03.3, 1:35.2). The Kadabra bay was three lengths back in third at the head of the stretch, but turned it up in the lane. Dial K closed with a :29.4 final quarter and got up for the one-length win in 2:06.
O’Brien Award winner Text Me, who was also a two-time OSS Super Final champion, is, without a doubt, one of the Ontario program’s most prolific competitors. Text Me banked more than $931,000 in overall purse earnings, $780,200 of which came from OSS races.
Dial K, who is out of the Super Bowl mare Dial Nile, was a $7,000 yearling purchase at the 2014 Lexington Select sale and is owned by Brad Gray of Dundas, Ont.
The fastest mile of the session was recorded by Manofmanymissions filly Devils Advocate, who closed from third and posted a 1:58.4 win off a :27.4 final quarter for driver Ron Waples and trainer Jack Darling.
