Fans were treated to a memorable mile by Margarita B in the Tuesday evening finale at Hippodrome 3R when that mare unleashed a track record-setting performance in her $6,000 assignment.
Denis St. Pierre wasted no time hustling the five-year-old daughter of Andover Hall-Avona Bessi to the lead, and once she got there it was game over for the others. Margarita B sped through intervals of :29, :58 and 1:27.3 before using a :29.4 kicker to win by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:57.2. The clocking knocked nearly two seconds off Oh Sweet Baby’s former track standard of 1:59.1 for older trotting mares.
Tiffanee Staley trains the speedball for St. Pierre and his partners, Limco Inc of Chateauguay and 176056 Canada Inc of Deux Montagnes, Quebec. The improved the 11-time winner’s 2014 record to 3-2-0 from 14 trips to the track. She’s managed to stash away more than $65,000 in career earnings.
