Major Athens moved smartly first over to capture Tuesday’s $20,000 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows.
Major Athens was coming off a disappointing seventh-place finish in the Charlie Hill, where he was sent off at 123-1. Back on more familiar territory at a more appropriate 4-1, he crisply attacked the leader, Trustworthy Kid, when Tony Hall asked him for trot and downed him by a head in 1:53.3, matching his career best. Count Me In Finished third.
Rich Gillock trains Major Athens, a four-year-old homebred son of Andover Hall-Miss Athens who now boasts lifetime earnings of $370,782, for Thomas Brice and Charles Receski.
