Kelseys Commando and Overnight Hit prevailed in their respective $20,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund divisions Tuesday for three-year-old trotting fillies at Harrington Raceway.
Owned by Richard Lombardo, JJ&M Stable and Pam Wagner, Kelseys Commando sat a pocket trip for driver Victor Kirby before swinging wide, drifting briefly toward the middle of the track, approaching the three-quarters and eventually reeling in pacesetter Oso Grateful for a narrow in 2:00.1. Linbo Love finished third. Trained by Josh Green, it was the first win in four 2014 starts for Kelseys Commando. She paid $2.20.
Art Stafford, Jr. and Wyatt Starkey’s Overnight Hit captured the other division with a front stepping triumph in 2:00. The Giant Hit-sired filly never had an anxious moment in her pacesetting two-length win over Bellas Spunkin and Way Over Paid. It was the third win in four 2014 starts for Overnight Hit for trainer/driver/co-owner Stafford, Jr. She paid $3.20.
Driver Jim Morand had a triple on the program, while Victor Kirby recorded two wins.
The $100,000 DSBF finals for all divisions will take place Thursday, July 24 on Governor’s Day during the Delaware State Fair.
