Woodbine Mohawk Park hosted a dozen qualifying races starring two-year-old fillies on Thursday morning (June 15).
The debuting Odds On Platinum and repeat winner A Few Choice Words were the fastest of Thursday's baby race winners, each pacing their miles in 1:57.3.
Odds On Platinum, a Bettors Delight filly out of world champion and multiple award winner American Jewel (pictured above), rallied three-wide from third off fractions of :30.2, 1:00.1 and 1:30.3 with a :26.4 bullet to win her first outing by 2-1/4 lengths over pocket-puller Blazing Belle while pacesetter Cheddar Crossing finished 10 lengths behind.
Bred by Hanover Shoe Farms, Odds On Platinum was a $110,000 Harrisburg Sale purchase by owner Odds On Racing. Driven by Tyler Moore, she was one of two qualifying winners on Thursday morning for trainer Ian Moore, who also sent out Ann (Hes Watching-Addicted To Love) to a 1:58 triumph in rein to Trevor Henry for owners Wilma and James MacKenzie.
A Few Choice Words closed out the qualifying session with a wire-to-wire effort, setting splits of :31.1, 1:00.4 and 1:29.1 on the way to her 1:57.3 victory by 2-3/4 lengths over Black To Reality and Capytreach.
Bob McClure put the homebred Courtly Choice filly on the point from post seven for her second consecutive qualifying win for trainer Blake MacIntosh and the Knot Xzachallie Stable. A Few Choice Words is out of Top Choice Hanover, a full sister to millionaire Breeders Crown champion Traceur Hanover.
MacIntosh doubled up with trotting filly Cold Snaps winning her second qualifying start in 2:00.4 with Henry in the bike. He co-owns the daughter of Six Pack and Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final champion Winter Sweet Frost with Tim Klemencic.
A pair of Desiree Jones trainees led the trotters as Summer Crush and Landing Order won their respective qualifiers in 2:00.3.
Driven by James MacDonald, Summer Crush cruised through panels of :30.1, 1:01.2 and 1:31.4 in her second outing before nearly doubling her leading margin with a :28.4 final quarter to win by 4-1/2 lengths ahead of her stablemate, Dollar Maker, who had owner Gino Toscani in the bike.
Bred by Winbak Farm, the winning Muscle Mass-CR Mimosa miss was a $22,000 Lexington Select Yearling Sale purchase. The filly is a half-sibling to multiple Delaware stakes champion Windshield ($334,937) and New York Sire Stakes winner JS Trotting Bob ($281,018).
Landing Order earned her second straight qualifying win for the same connections, this time on the front end. She cut the fractions of :31.1, 1:02.1 and 1:31.4 before trotting off to win by 5-3/4 lengths with :28.4 closing speed. Muscled Up and Dontmesswithmama were second and third, respectively.
Bred by Order By Stable Ab and purchased for $40,000 from the Lexington sale as a yearling, the filly by Tactical Landing out of multiple New York Sire Stakes winner Order By Credit is a half-sibling to six-figure earner Golden Kronos ($363,940).
Jones also sent out trotting filly Tactical Strike (Tactical Landing-Sorceress Seelster), who won her debut last week and lowered her mark to 2:01.2 here with MacDonald driving for Toscani.
MacDonald drove four baby race winners in total, also scoring with Millar Farms' homebred pacing filly The Magic Moment (Big Jim-Catch A Wish), a full sister to 2021 O'Brien Award winner Prohibition Legal. The Nick Gallucci trainee debuted in 1:58.3 with a :26.4 final frame to catch Toscani's pacesetter Wicked Serena at the wire.
