The 2022 Atlantic Sires Stakes race season officially gets underway on Friday (June 17), as the three-year-old pacing fillies hit the oval at Truro Raceway.

Eight fillies will go behind the gate in Race 11 for a purse of $15,020 in the lone 'A' division.  Local track record holder Therealprincess will leave from post three, and rival Woodmere Jazz leaves from post four. Both fillies have won their last two starts.

Atlantic Breeders Crown two-year-old champion Boo Yaya will make her first stake start in 2022, lining up beside her streaking counterparts from post five.

There are two $3,000 'B' divisions events on the card, slotted as Races 2 and 5.

The Atlantic Sires Stakes program, the first of its kind in Canada, was formed back in 1966 with the sole purpose of promoting the Standardbred horse industry in Atlantic Canada. Today the program not only showcases the best young horses in the region, it also encourages people to breed, buy and race horses in the Maritimes.

The Atlantic Sires Stakes offers participants and spectators the finest in harness racing action and the season-ending Atlantic Breeders Crown Championship has become one of the most prestigious Maritime harness racing events.

Atlantic Sires Stakes events will take place at racetracks throughout Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, with the Atlantic Breeders Crown being hosted by Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park in October.

Points earned in each Atlantic Sires Stakes 'A' division and trot event go towards securing a coveted spot in the season-ending Atlantic Breeders Crown Championships.

First race post time at Truro Raceway on Friday is 6 p.m. To view the entries, click the following link: Friday Entries - Truro Raceway.
