Bondi Hanover Wins First Qualifier

The son of power couple Somebeachsomewhere and Bunny Lake, Bondi Hanover made his qualifying debut on Friday at Vernon Downs.

Leaving from the outside post six in the second qualifier of the day with Brian Mattison in the sulky, Bondi Hanover cruised through fractions of :30, 1:01.1 and 1:31.2 en route to a three and a half length victory in 2:00.3. Carmie (Arts Chip-The Panishing Girl) and Savhorsrideacowboy (Mister Big-Red Road Rage) finished second and third.

The combined earnings of 2009 Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame inductee Somebeachsomewhere and Bunny Lake, who was inducted into the U.S. Living Horse Hall of Fame in 2010, is close to $6.4 million.

Purchased for $90,000 at the Lexington Selected Sale by W Springtime Racing Stable of Johnstown, New York, Bondi Hanover is trained by Paul Kelley.
