It was a big day for the letter “M” at Kawartha Downs on Tuesday, as Mannerheim found his way to victory lane in the feature race and a trainer with the surname McGinnis celebrated a milestone win
.
Mannerheim used last second heroics for trainer/driver Riina Rekila en route to winning his $8,800 assignment in 1:57.2. The four-year-old son of Kadabra, who was still sitting sixth at the mid-way point, rallied late and used a :29-second final frame to post the half-length decision in 1:57.2. Hartmann was next best and Dropofthehammer was third.
Ilona Rekila of Campbellville, ON owns the seven-time winner, and the trotter’s cut of the purse lifetime his lifetime cash stash to $60,490.
Just three races after Mannerheim won the feature race, trainer Jason McGinnis notched the 500th win of his career. The conditioned achieved the milestone thanks to a gate-to-wire triumph with The Panductor.
The six-year-old daughter of The Panderosa, who was handled by Billy Davis, Jr., chopped out fractions of :27.3, :57.3 and 1:26.2 before finishing off her foes with a :29.3 final frame en route to the 1:56 tally.
McGinnis, who also owns the mare, has harnessed winners in excess of $3.5 million in earnings to date.
