Having already lowered his mark to 1:49, Up The Credit has stamped himself as one of the favourites to take down the $1.5 million Pepsi North America Cup this Saturday at Mohawk Racetrack. Even though his
charge recently lowered the stakes mark in the Somebeachsomewhere Stakes, trainer Carl Jamieson is expecting more from his pupil.
Up The Credit, a three-year-old Western Terror colt driven by Jody Jamieson, lowered his mark to 1:49 June 4 in the Somebeachsomewhere. He followed that win up with a 1:50.4 victory over a deep track last weekend in the North America Cup eliminations.
With the $750,000 winner's share of the 'Cup' purse firmly within sight, Carl is expecting more from his colt on Canada's biggest stage.
"My horse wasn't as sharp last week because I didn't train him much because I didn't feel he needed it," Jamieson was quoted as saying in an article by The Expositor. "Also the track was dead. It was heavy because of the weather. I look to see him a little better this week."
The conditioner was also quoted as saying, "I've already had two (breeding) farms trying to buy in on him. I think he'll get a record better than (1:) 48 before it's over."
