Perfect Vacation toppled Rideau’s top trotters in his $14,000 assignment while Priceless Edition got up in the nick of time to prevail over his pacing counterparts.
Perfect Vacation marched to the top and didn’t look back en route to his winning effort. The seven-year-old son of Dream Vacation knifed out panels of :28.2, :58 and 1:26.2 for driver John MacDonald before taking on a :29.1 final quarter to post the 1:55.3 decision. Star Ruffnready was next best and third prize went to Darkon Lavec.
Richard Moreau conditions the gelding, who surpassed $250,000 in earnings with the win. The 20-time winner is owned by Sean Hibbert of Corbyville, ON.
Priceless Edition survived a first-over journey to win the $14,000 Preferred Pace for the duo of driver Gord Brown and trainer Mark Steacy. The six-year-old son of Real Desire, who refused to lose in the nine-horse affair, summoned up a :28.2 closing panel to prevail by three-quarters of a length over P H Bestman in 1:52.2. Aint No Hearsay, who was sent off as the favourite, was third.
Peter Heffering of Port Perry, ON bred and owns the gelding, who is now a 30-time winner in his career. The lion’s share of the purse boosted his career bankroll over $428,000.
