Homebreds Shine In 2YO Qualifiers

The fastest pacing and trotting miles of the 13 baby races held on Friday morning at Mohawk Racetrack came from homebred youngsters.

In the ninth qualifier, Go Daddy Go was a four-length winner in 1:57.1 for driver Randy Waples. The son of Ponder-Sanfrancine is owned by breeder Robert McIntosh Stables and co-owned by Dave Boyle. Go Daddy Go is a half-brother to sub-1:50 performer Daddy Mac.

Three races later, Waples guided another rookie pacer to an identical 1:57.1 speed badge. Sports Bettor, a son of Sportswriter-Shellys Delight, was a half-length winner for trainer Mark Austin. Sports Bettor in the first living foal of Shellys Delight and is owned by breeder Frank Gentile of Beaconsfield, Que.

On the trotting side, filly Magical Gem scored a solid 2:01.2 effort for the fastest trotting mile on the card, winning her initial test by a half-length. Owned by breeder Stephen Chartrand of Hampton, Ont., Magical Gem is a daughter of Majestic Son and the first foal of Kadabra mare Divine Magic.
