The Meadows in North Strabane will be celebrating its 50th anniversary this month, and in anticipation of the event, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has taken a retrospective look at the Pennsylvania raceway.
The article explains how horse racing used to be the only form of legal gambling in the state, and how the introduction of slot machines was crucial to where the track is today.
The track will celebrate its 50th anniversary the week of June 23-29 with a 1960s-themed celebration. In addition to other promotions, entertainment for the anniversary will feature Grammy- and Emmy-winning entertainers, including Gladys Knight and the O'Jays on June 29.
