Dont Say Anything wore down pacesetter Red Star Vickers in deep stretch to break his maiden in the $15,000 Rising Star Stake for three-year-old pacing colts that are non-winners of $20,000 lifetime Saturday night at Fraser Downs

.

Fan favourite Red Star Vickers (Jim Marino) fought Tahuya Ruckous (Mike Hennessy) for the top spot during the :27.4 first quarter while inside starter Dont Say Anything and driver Kevin Anderson settled into fourth position. As Red Star Vickers cleared the lead and showed the way to the half in :56.3, Anderson sent his charge first up and ducked into a gaping two-hole before the third quarter was up in 1:25.

As Red Star Vickers turned for home, he had two and a half lengths on his nearest foe, but Dont Say Anything was able to wear him down in deep stretch with a :29.1 final frame for the half-length score in 1:54.3. Red Star Rocker (John Abbott) finished nearly eight lengths back in third.

Dont Say Anything returned $6.80 to his backers. The Kents On Nuke-Harietta colt is trained by Debra McCarthy for owner-breeder Mark Anderson of Willows, California. Despite going 0-for-6 in his freshman year, Dont Say Anything banked $7,515 with a second and two third-place finishes in stakes action. After making three starts this year, his total earnings stand at $15,415.

Bridgette Hanover worked out a similar trip to win the following $10,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace. The 5-1 fourth choice advanced first over from fourth and wore down pacesetter Jans Rich Girl (Scott Knight) by half a length in 1:53.1 to push her lifetime earnings over the $100,000 mark. The pocket-sitting Judges Acenthehole (Jim Marino) finished 1-1/2 length behind.

Driver David Hudon also trains the four-year-old daughter of Western Ideal-Bet Me Hanover, who is owned by Bill Boden of Vancouver, BC. Bridgette Hanover paid $12.50 to win for the fourth time in 17 starts this year. The lion’s share of the purse pushed her earnings to $23,030.
