An eight-pack of baby races was on the docket Friday morning (June 12) at Mohawk Racetrack, as a total of 52 two-year-old trotters faced the starting gate over a ‘fast’ track. One Too Many, a filly from the first crop of Manofmanymissions, was the fleetest of all.
In rein to her trainer, Anthony MacDonald, One Too Many (Manofmanymissions-Condi Lane, by Striking Sahbra) sauntered up to Post 2 in Race 1, which featured a field of six.
MacDonald and his bay surveyed the scene and were third to the :31.1 opening quarter, but had darted to the lead before they hit the half-mile marker in 1:02.1. One Too Many chugged along the final bend where the flow had started to develop. The filly buzzed the three-quarters-of-a-mile station in 1:33.1 before straightening up for home.
MacDonald asked One Too Many for some trot in the lane, and she responded in full, as she uncorked a :27.3 final panel and hammered the finish line in 2:00.4. Her final margin of victory was more than four lengths.
One Too Many was sold as Hip #151 in Standardbred Canada’s 2014 Canadian Yearling Sale. Owner Rene Allard paid $14,000 for One Too Many, who is the second foal out of the Striking Sahbra mare Condi Lane.
