When your sire is a Hall of Famer and your dam is a multiple stakes winner that banked just shy of $1-million in earnings, there’s a bit of pressure to be a top performer. Elegant Serenity is quickly proving she might fall into that category.

The three-year-old daughter of Kadabra-Elegantimage went winless in seven starts during last year’s freshman campaign, but she’s now 2-for-2 to kick off what could be a big sophomore campaign.

Trainer/driver Roger Mayotte guided Elegant Serenity to a 1:56 victory at Mohawk Racetrack on June 1 in a $14,000 conditioned assignment, and he made a round trip to victory lane with the filly during Thursday’s 10-race card at the Campbellville, Ontario oval.

Sent off as the 2-5 favourite, Elegant Serenity got away in mid-pack from her Post 9 perch behind the starting gate. She was still fifth while riding parked first-over as the field hit the half in a pedestrian :58.3. Elegant Serenity was second and closing on the tempo-setting Ladyone at the three-quarter pole in 1:56.1, and following that she used a :28.3 kicker to win by 2-1/4 lengths over Ladyone in 1:56.1. Mass Rail rounded out the top three finishers.

Doug Millard of Woodstock, Ontario bred and owns the improving youngster who now boasts a bankroll totaling $47,018. Fans will hopefully see plenty of her in the OSS program over the course of the summer and fall, and there’s a good chance she’ll get a chance to strut her stuff in Grand Circuit events such as the stakes named after her mother - the Elegantimage Stake - later this summer.
