The Pot O Gold Claiming Series for $4,500 claiming pacers continued on Saturday night at Sudbury Downs with a pair of $5,000 second leg divisions
going to Mancasso and Blue Water.
Mancasso and driver Gerry Belanger kicked off the action with a three and a half length victory in 1:59.4 over the ‘good’ track rated one second off. The five-year-old son of Artsplace-Newport Way rallied off second over cover to deliver on his pari-mutuel promise. Pacesetter M G Extrem (Stephane Audet) finished second and Jeneract (Mike MacNeill) followed for third.
The bettor’s choice paid $5 to win. Chris Hohner trains the gelding, who was third in first round action, for Charlotte Hohner of Val Caron, Ont. The win was his first in six 2011 starts.
Driven by Wayne MacLean, Blue Water converted from the pocket to win the second split in 1:59 for trainer France MacLean and owner Jack Berkeley Jr. of Hamilton, Ont. Pacesetter Poker Legend (David Dowling) finished over four lengths back in second and In The Studio (Justin Turcotte) was third.
Blue Water paid $10.70 for the mild 4-1 upset. The 10-year-old Water Tower-Bit Of Rain gelding, who finished second in his first leg division, earned his second win in 15 starts this year.
