Several of the top female drivers in the sport of harness racing will be competing in two races Wednesday, June 17 at Pocono Downs while aiding in the fight against breast cancer.
Pocono Downs is just one of more than 40 racetracks that will be hosting the 2009 Mildred Williams International Driving Series that helps promote women in harness racing while aiding charities throughout North America. The late Mildred Williams, who passed away at the age of 92 and who was still active with the series, was regarded as 'The First Lady of Harness Racing.'
The women drivers that compete donate their purses to the charity of choice while compiling points in the driving series. Pocono Downs and the Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen’s Association will once again be donating $1,500 each to the Susan G. Komen Foundation For The Cure, Northeast Affiliate, this year’s chosen charity.
The list of women drivers competing Wednesday are Kelly Case, Stacy Chiodo, Doreen Dailey, Theresa Donnelly, Megan Fortna, Lynn Fry, Devan Miller, Linda Schadel and Ann Schlichtig.
All women, 21 years of age and older, attending Wednesday’s live harness action can 'Think Pink' while having the opportunity of winning one of eight RejuvenEsssence Wellness Spa packages. One entry per patron and all entries must be submitted before the fourth race prior to the drawings.
