Local trainer Pat Bissett sent out three successful starters including feature winner Sportsline during Sunday afternoon's 10-race card at Clinton Raceway.
Bissett picked up his first win of the day at the halfway point with his own five-year-old So Surreal mare Anchor So Reel ($4.20) taking a division of a Pop-Up Pacing Series for $7,000 claiming mares in 2:00 with Travis Henry in the bike.
Sportsline ($2.80) won the feature in race seven, the $6,000 Preferred 3 Pace, in wire-to-wire fashion with Canada’s top driver Tyler Borth at the lines. Dropping down in class, the favoured seven-year-old son of Sportswriter used his gate speed to secure the lead from the outside post then held off pocket-pursuer Harpers Hat Trick by a neck in 1:56 for Bissett and owners Lisa Desroches and Craig Parrott. Sportsline started his career with a pair of victories at Clinton back in 2018 and maintained his perfect local record while nothcing his 28th lifetime win.
Jackie Davis ($27.30) capped off Bissett's training triple with a 1:57.2 upset victory in the ninth race, a fillies and mares optional claiming pace. Daryl Thiessen worked out the winning pocket trip behind the four-year-old Well Said mare, who is owned by Gary Stoddart.
With Sunday's three wins, Bissett jumped into first spot as the leading trainer at Clinton Raceway this season.
Other Pop-Up Series winners on the card were Century Havana in the mares class for trainer/driver Robert Jenkins and Sunseeker in the male division for Borth and trainer James Stewart.
The Central Huron Volunteer Fire Department was on hand for a trackside fundraiser. Just over $1,000 was raised in support of Camp Bucko, a safe, caring, fun camp program that is free for children with burn injuries in Ontario.
Live harness racing returns to the Huron County half-mile track next Sunday, with special Father's Day festivities including a chance to win four tickets to see the Blue Jays take on the Boston Red Sox and free coolie cups for the first 150 dads to purchase a program. The Clinton Mustangs minor baseball organization will be on hand for a trackside fundraiser.
