Gentry Seelster secured his second win in five starts this year in the $1,600 Winners Over feature race at Northside Downs on Saturday afternoon (June 11).
With Lawrence Snow at the controls, Gentry Seelster tucked away in second at the release of the gate. The rest of the field maintained post-position order as they made their way to the rail. Kiss Me Im Irish (Mark Pezzarello) lead the charge to a :28.1 first quarter with the field unchanged behind her. The opening half mile breezed in :57.4 with Revenant (Zachary Mullins) challenging for the lead. Unable to make it to the top, Revenant opened a gap that allowed Gentry Seelster to pop out off of the rail and make a move towards the front in a 1:27.2 third quarter. Fending off his stable mate, Gentry Seelster caught the wire in 1:57.1.
Robert MacNeil trained both the winner, Gentry Seelster ($12.50), and the second-place finisher, Kiss Me Im Irish ($2.10). Completing the triactor was Johnnie Jack ($5.60) driven by Jason MacNeil.
Gentry Seelster is a five-year-old horse by Mach Three. This win sums 11 career victories in 42 starts with $40,552 career earnings.
Also on the card, Jeremy Baker had his first lifetime training win with Q Ts Charlie. The six-year-old gelding was driven to victory by John Kennedy in 2:01.2.
