Bella Palazzo Defies Her Odds Again

Bella Palazzo ($38.60) pulled off a Preferred 2 upset for the second week in a row, this time winning Georgian Downs' $11,000 trotting feature on Saturday night (June 10).

Fresh off a 37-1 upset in Grand River Raceway's Preferred 2 last Friday, Bella Palazzo was overlooked by the betting public in Georgian's affair and sent off as the 18-1 longest shot on the board. The Mike Weller trainee defied her odds once again and prevailed by a head over her male rivals off a three-hole trip in 1:56.3. Kennel Buddy came up just short after his first-over journey while Ole Jack Magic and Intimidate closed from the backfield for third and fourth-place amidst a blanket finish. The entire eight-horse field was spread across just one and three-quarters lengths at the wire.

Nick Steward catch-drove Pod Stable's six-year-old Tom Ridge mare, whose win streak actually extends back three races to when she won a conditioned event at Mohawk Racetrack on May 22 as the 4-1 second favourite. The win was her fifth overall this year from 19 starts and 26th victory lifetime boosting her earnings to $174,509.

Wheelhouse Racing Stable's Burnin Money ($5.20) won his Georgian Downs debut in the $7,500 Preferred 3 in 1:56 flat, completing a training double for Carmen Auciello and a natural hat trick for driver Travis Henry.
