Howmac Charmer held on gamely in a tight finish to capture the top event on Tuesday, June 10 at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
In the $3,650 feature in race 14, Howmac Charmer ($4.30) stalked the pace through the first three-quarters for driver Corey MacPherson and pounced late to edge Hes Touring (David Dowling) by a head in 1:55.4. Braxtons Boy (Brady Sweet) was another length back in third. Doug Williams of Guelph, Ont, owns the winning five-year-old son of Malicious.
Little Leroy ($2.10) delivered a dominant 1:54.4 victory in the third race for driver Ken Murphy and trainer Joe Baxter for the fastest win of the night. The four-year-old gelding is owned by Baxter, Marion Stewart, Brian Ramsay and the BMD Memorial Stable.
Driver Adam Merner had the hot hands on the evening, winning four dashes. The Nova Scotia native opened up the program winning the first with Saulsbrook Gunner ($3.90) in a 1:58 maiden-breaking score from his own barn, then capturing the second aboard Run For The Money ($6.40) in 1:58.4 for trainer Chris MacKay. Merner also bagged a pair of winners for trainer Earl Watts, including Thelastartie ($12.80) in the seventh in 1:59.4 and Starship Glyde ($2.80) in the race 15 finale with a 1:58.4 clocking.
Dont Come Lookin ($29.40) posted the biggest upset of the night in race 13, rallying from off the pace with Dowling in the bike to prevail in 1:59.1 for trainer Chris Davies. Davies doubled up from his barn with Canvas Of Stars ($11.10) winning race six in 1:59.4 with Ryan Desroche in the bike.
The victory contributed to a Desroche triple as Anniemosity ($4.30) won the eighth in 2:02 from the Greg MacInnis barn and Brokeandoutofgas ($4.10) won race 11 in 1:56.4 for trainer Tammy Collings.
