The $28,000 conditioned trot topped the Monday (June 10) evening card at Woodbine Mohawk Park as the featured race and Perfetto zoomed home to win by a narrow margin.
Walk On The Moon (Jonathan Drury) took over as the pacesetter for the mile after the quarter in :26.1 and kept going to dictate the tempo through marks in :55.2 and 1:23.4. Perfetto (Dagfin Henriksen) got away third through the opening quarter, but closed the gap to second through the half. Southwind Coors (Chris Christoforou) pressed forward to take over second at the three-quarters, but Henriksen and his student continued strong to take on Walkonthemoon down the lane. The pair battled for the win through the stretch, but in a photo finish Perfetto prevailed by a neck in 1:53.2. Walkonthemoon had to settle for second and Kevin Anthony (Trevor Henry) grabbed third.
Perfetto (Majestic Son - Perfect Prelude) is a nine-year-old gelding owned by Gerald Haggerty. He won his third race in 13 starts this year and 31st race from 133 career starts, moving his lifetime sum to a whopping $900,481. The veteran trotter returned $9.90 to win from 4-1 odds.
