Tattersalls Sales Co. announced today that its annual Summer Mixed Sale will be held Tuesday, July 26 at the Meadowlands. The live, in-person auction lands squarely on the most exciting time of year at the track — right between the Meadowlands Pace and Hambletonian.
“We’re really looking forward to ramping up another live sale at the world’s greatest racehorse marketplace,” said Tattersalls manager David Reid. “There’s certainly a need for it, as every jurisdiction will be racing in the heart of summer and those wanting to sell racehorses prior to yearling season will find more than an eager audience of buyers. It’s basically prime time to cash in.”
With the 2020 Summer Mixed cancelled because of the pandemic, last year’s sale was well anticipated, well attended and deemed a huge success by all; and strong sale figures bear that out.
The 2021 sale average of $34,673 showed a 36 per cent increase from 2019. The median was up a whopping 50 per cent and the top-selling racehorse, Eurobond, brought $205,000.
Reid said the Summer Mixed will again have a sharp focus on in-form racehorses. “But we’ll certainly welcome race fillies, broodmare prospects and in-foal mares, as quality in that sector of the market brings a premium any time of year.”
Like last year, the sale will be livestreamed and offer real-time bidding on Proxibid for those unable to make it to the Meadowlands.
The entry deadline for the sale is yet to be announced, but according to Reid entries for the main catalog — and especially the supplement — will be taken as close to the sale date as possible. Payment to sellers will be expedited.
