Cartoon Daddy Lays Down The Law

Despite having gotten away sixth at the start of the Sunday afternoon (June 10) top-class feature at Red Shores’ Summerside Raceway, Cartoon Daddy went on to demolish his competition.

With Corey MacPherson at the lines, the six-year-old son of Art Major stopped the clock in 1:56.3 after using a hard brush to earn the front end before the three-quarters. He went on to draw clear and win by one and a half lengths.

Second in the $2,350 event went to Salmonier Storm and trainer-driver Ambyr Campbell, while Heart And Soul (driven by Walter Cheverie) was third to complete a healthy $336.90 triactor.

Rachel Andrew trains Cartoon Daddy for owners Brian Andrew of Milton and William Andrew of Calgary, Alta.

The duo of Summerside driver Norris Rogers and New Brunswick trainer Sifroi Melanson clicked twice during the Sunday afternoon program. Rogers guided Ultimateflyingnum to a 17-1 upset in Race 4 for a 2:00.1 trip from the Melanson stable, while Instant Shadow captured the $1,800 back-up pace in 1:56.3 for Rogers and Melanson. The Blaine McKenna Stable also had two wins on the afternoon, as it scored with Inspector Murdoch (Jason Hughes) in 1:59.3 and Hunger Pangs (MacPherson) in 2:01.

Marc Campbell had one visit to the winner’s circle on the 12-dash card to bring his career win total to 1,999 with his historic milestone still eluding him. The 33-year-old Winsloe driver will be the youngest driver to ever hit 2,000 career victories while racing in Atlantic Canada. Campbell won on the Sunday card with Four Brass Starz in 2:00.4 for owner-trainer Nick MacGillivray of Stratford.

Live racing will continue on P.E.I. with cards this coming Thursday and Saturday at Red Shores’ Charlottetown and next Sunday (June 17) at Red Shores’ Summerside. The $100,000 Dash for Cash with a brand new prize structure gets underway Saturday and Sunday. For race replays and more, head to redshores.ca.
