Hello Carlo, a seven-year-old Carry The Message gelding, out of the Supergill mare Last Turn, won the $10,000 featured Open Handicap Trot
in 2:00 for owner Mario Caponi of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio at Buffalo Raceway Friday night (June 10). It was the fifth win in 14 attempts for Hello Carlo.
Hello Carlo ($11.20), leaving from post six in the field of eight and driven by reinsman Jack Flanigen, settled in sixth as Australian Stock (John Cummings, Jr.) hit the quarter in :29.2. Eventual third place finisher Bologna (Chris Page) brushed to the lead, and hit the half in :58, and the three-quarters in 1:28.2. Hello Carlo was now motoring fast on the outside, and pasted everyone in the stretch to beat second place finisher The Promised Horse by one and three-quarter lengths at the finish line.
Trained by Larry Clabaugh, the $5,000 share of the winning purse put Hello Carlo’s season bankroll at $21,600 and $173,394 lifetime.
