Bailey Sweeps Both Features At Vernon

Leon Bailey swept the features with Warrawee Unique and Bourbon Express at Vernon Downs on Saturday, June 1.

Warrawee Unique ($8.60) cruised to the win in the $10,274 featured pace. In that event, Le Massif (Steeven Genois) went to the front and led to the quarter in :27.1. Warrawee Unique then went on by going around the first turn. He led to the half in :55 and to three-quarters in 1:22. As they reached the stretch, it became a battle for second as Warrawee Unique breezed to a win in 1:50.3. Takeittotheface (John MacDonald) came up to finish second. Old Pal (Truman Gale) finished third.

Warrawee Unique is an eight-year-old gelding by Sweet Lou. He is owned by the Betcha Win Stable and trained by Jeff Sorenson. It was his third win this season in nine starts. He now has 27 career victories.

Bourbon Express ($5.30) won the $10,274 featured trot. Bourbon Express went three-wide heading to the first turn and hit the quarter first in :26.3. He slowed things down with a :30.1 second quarter to be first to the half in :56.4.  Bourbon Express widened the lead heading around the final turn and led to three-quarters in 1:26.3. As they entered the stretch, Golden Kronos (Steeven Genois) and Crazy Fool (Claude Huckabone Jr.) went on the chase but Bourbon Express had plenty in the tank and won in 1:55.4. Golden Kronos was second best. Crazy Fool finished third.

Owned by Sal Vullo, James DeArmond and trainer Jessica Okusko, Bourbon Express is an eight-year-old gelding by RC Royalty. He's posted three wins this season from seven starts and 27 victories through his career.

Bailey turned in a driving grand slam. He got his other wins with Ponderance and Nicholas Blue Chip.

Vernon Downs returns with live racing on Friday, June 7 at 4 p.m.
