Black Tie Bash returned to Rideau Carleton Raceway on Thursday, June 1 to post a repeat winning performance in the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Trot.
Robert Shepherd moved the Isabelle Darveau trainee off the gate into fourth, where they would continue at the back of the shortened field through the quarter in :28.3 and half in :57.2. Shepherd and Black Tie Bash made a first-over move before the three-quarters in 1:26.3. Down the stretch, Black Tie Bash was able to distance himself to a two-length victory in 1:55, overtaking longshot leader Raising Rusty. Sent postward as the favourite, he paid $2.90 to win.
Black Tie Bash is a five-year-old gelded son of Chapter Seven who boasts a record of 20-10-9 in 65 starts to go along with $166,408 in career earnings. It was his second win in two starts this season for owner Robert Shepherd.
