Grand River Raceway kicked off its 2015 season on June 1 and the night was highlighted by Astute in the sixth annual Local Biz Night Race.
The popular event saw more than 120 people from 22 local businesses matched with a horse in race eight. The Fergus Legion and Canada BrokerLink were the winners paired with Astute and received a trophy to display in their workplace, plus and an equal share of a staff party for 20 at Grand River Raceway.
The three-length victory in 1:55 is a new season’s best for the eight-year-old Astreos son owned by trainer Isabelle Darveau of Cambridge, ON. Robert Shepherd piloted Astute, who notched his second win of the season and 24th lifetime score.
Local Biz Night is a joint-effort between Grand River Raceway, the OLG Slots at Grand River Raceway, and the Centre Wellington Chamber Of Commerce.
