Returning to Canada after a short campaign in New York, Ontario-sired Cold Certified won the featured $11,000 Preferred 2 Trot at Flamboro Downs on Saturday night.
With five runner-up finishes this season, Cold Certified ($6.10) finally made it into the win column with a 1:57.4 front-stepping effort in the top trot for Port Perry trainer Gary Lance's GL Racing Inc. The five-year-old Kadabra gelding prevailed by a quarter-length over Cimeronken and favourite Winkys Pride with Robert Shepherd in the sulky.
A pair of $7,000 Preferred 3 trots went to upsetters Rainbow Gold ($60.10) in 1:57.4 for Dennis and Ashley Duford and the Bob McClure-driven and Ron Parsons-trained mare Be Winnin ($68.30) in 1:58.3. Rainbow Gold won by more than eight lengths over Oaklea Sydney, teamed by McClure and Parsons. Be Winnin prevailed by half a length with broken equipment over the Dufords' 18-1 shot Savthelstdancforme.
